Together, let's increase the number of social housing in Montreal.

Homelessness is not a choice unless the situation avoided is considered far more serious. It is a generally negative, stressful and distressing experience.

Homelessness results from systemic and societal barriers, a lack of affordable and adequate housing, and/or financial, mental, cognitive, behavioral or physical challenges to the individual or family (Canadian Definition of Homelessness). (Définition Canadienne de l’itinérance).

More generally, insecure housing is the result of several issues related to economic development that diverge from social development. Among these challenges, poverty, relative to the cost of living, addictions and mental health are generally factors leading to a risk of chronic or episodic homelessness.
