Vilavi offers social housing in rooming houses whose tenants must be subsidized and therefore eligible for the Rent Supplement Program (PSL).
How to apply for housing?
The selection criteria are as follows :
- Be over 18 years old
- Live alone and be eligible for the Rent Supplement Program (PSL)*
- Commit to respecting the building regulations including not using alcohol or drugs
- Be able to perform daily tasks, manage budget, meals, housekeeping (hygiene, cleanliness)
- Demonstrate an ability to act in a safe manner for oneself and for others
- Collaborate in the transmission of references; demonstrate a capacity for cooperation, involvement and participation
- General appreciation
The eligibility limits for Vilavi housing are as follows:
- People aged 70 and over.
- Current or recent drug or alcohol problems (less than one year) unless the person has successfully completed an internal addiction treatment program followed by social reintegration.
- Dangerous criminal history (violent or sexual crime) such as: Homicide, attempted murder, various forms of sexual and non-sexual assault, theft and kidnapping
- Serious, untreated mental health problems evidenced by the following symptoms: Violence, loss of self-control (anger, impulsivity, dangerous acts for pleasure, extreme hostility, or physical violence). Serious behavioral disorders (rebellion, intentional or continuous provocation of others); Paranoia: being overly suspicious of others (feeling watched, attacked or betrayed without sufficient reason)
*The criteria for admission to the Rent Supplement Program are as follows:
- Have an annual income of less than $38 000 (ref. 2023)
- Submit your provincial notice of assessment for the previous year or be in the process
- Have proof of residence/presence on the Greater Montreal territory during the last 12 months (ex: letter from the welfare office, lease, invoice, letter from a community organization).
